Geysers are seasonal appliances, and that’s precisely why they fail the way they do. A water heater that sits unused from March to October is switched on in November and asked to work immediately - after eight months of sediment settling in the tank and scale hardening on the element.

Kolkata’s water supply compounds this. Mineral content leaves scale on the heating element, and a scaled element takes longer to heat, consumes more electricity, and eventually burns out. Most “geyser not heating” calls we attend in early winter are elements that failed under a load of accumulated scale, not elements that were faulty.

Geysers are also the appliance where safety matters most, because they combine water, electricity and pressure in a sealed vessel. A leaking tank, a non-functioning pressure relief valve, or a unit that trips the MCB is not something to keep using while you decide. We check the safety components on every visit, whatever you called us about.

Symptoms and causes

Geyser problems we fix

We test before we replace, so you are not paying for a part your appliance did not need.

  • No hot water at all

Burnt-out heating element or failed thermostat - the two most common winter faults.

  • Water heats slowly, or isn’t hot enough

Heavy scale on the element, or a thermostat drifting out of calibration.

  • Water leaking from the unit

Failed pressure relief valve, corroded tank, or loose inlet/outlet connections. A corroded tank cannot be repaired safely and needs replacement.

  • Tripping the MCB or ELCB

Element insulation failure or a water leak into the electricals. Switch it off at the mains and call.

  • Making noise while heating

Sediment at the bottom of the tank boiling against the element.

  • Water discoloured or smelling metallic

Corroding tank interior or a spent anode rod.

  • Instant geyser stops mid-flow

Flow sensor, thermal cut-out, or low inlet pressure.

  • Indicator light on but no heating

Thermostat or element failure with control power still present.

  • Hot water runs out very quickly

Failed lower element in dual-element units, or a dip tube issue.

Why MT

Why choose MT for geyser repair

We check the safety components every time.

Pressure relief valve, earthing and thermal cut-out get inspected on every visit, regardless of the fault you called about. On an appliance combining water, electricity and pressure, that isn’t optional.

We descale, not just replace.

Where an element is scaled but sound, descaling and a tank flush restores heating and costs less than replacement. Where it’s burnt out, we say so.

Both types.

Instant and storage water heaters, including dual-element models.

We’ll tell you when a tank can’t be saved.

A corroded, leaking tank is not safely repairable. We won’t patch one to earn a repair fee.

Honest parts sourcing.

OEM or high-quality compatible parts depending on your model, disclosed before fitting. 30-day warranty on parts and labour.

Pre-winter servicing.

A flush and element check in October or early November prevents most of the failures we attend in December.

How it works

How our geyser repair works

  1. Tell us the type and symptom.

Instant or storage, capacity if you know it, and what’s happening.

  2. Technician visits your home.

With tools, descaling equipment and common spares.

  3. Diagnosis, safety check and firm quote.

We test the element, thermostat, wiring and safety valve, then explain the fault and the price.

  4. Repair, test and safety confirmation.

We complete the work, run the unit to temperature, and confirm the safety components are functioning.

₹299

Covers travel, inspection and a safety check. A firm quote follows before work begins - decline it and you pay only the visit charge.

Thermostat replacement, descaling and valve work sit at the lower end. Element replacement is mid-range. A corroded tank means replacement of the unit rather than a repair - and we’ll tell you that plainly instead of quoting work that won’t hold.

Seasonal note: demand peaks November to February. A pre-winter service in October gets you a faster slot and usually avoids the failure altogether.

Common questions

Geyser repair FAQs

That’s the most common call we get each November. Eight months of disuse lets sediment settle and scale harden on the element, and the element fails under that load the first time it’s asked to work. It’s usually an element or thermostat replacement.

It depends where from. A leaking pressure relief valve or a loose connection is a straightforward fix. A leak from the tank body means internal corrosion, and a corroded tank cannot be repaired safely - it needs replacing. We’ll show you which one you have.

Switch it off at the mains and stop using it. This usually means the element’s insulation has failed or water has reached the electricals. It’s a genuine shock risk, so it shouldn’t wait.

Once a year, ideally before winter. In Kolkata, a yearly descale and tank flush makes a real difference to both heating speed and electricity consumption, given the mineral content in the supply.

Yes. Scale insulates the element from the water, so the geyser runs longer to reach the same temperature. Descaling restores heating speed and reduces running time.

Yes, both - including dual-element storage models.

Element and thermostat replacements are usually finished within an hour. Descaling and a full tank flush take longer.

If it’s leaking, tripping the MCB, or giving any shock sensation, switch it off at the mains and don’t use it. If it’s simply heating slowly, it’s generally safe until we arrive - but mention the symptoms when you call and we’ll advise.
