Air conditioners in Kolkata work harder than almost anywhere in India. It isn’t only the heat - it’s the combination of high temperature and heavy humidity from March through September, which keeps the unit running long cycles while pulling moisture out of the air continuously. Add construction dust in the newer stretches of Rajarhat and New Town, and coils clog faster than the manuals assume.
The most common complaint we’re called for is simply “not cooling.” That symptom has at least six distinct causes, and only one of them is low refrigerant. A dirty filter, a fouled condenser coil, a failed capacitor, a blocked drain, a faulty thermostat sensor and a compressor fault all present the same way to the customer.
This matters commercially, because gas refilling is the most over-sold service in the AC repair market. A properly sealed AC does not consume refrigerant. If your unit genuinely needs gas, it has a leak - and refilling without finding the leak means you’ll be paying again next season. We test pressure and locate leaks rather than topping up and walking away.

Capacitor, sensor, drain and cleaning work sits at the lower end. Gas leak repair with refilling, coil replacement and compressor work are the larger jobs.
On gas refilling specifically: we quote leak detection and repair together with refilling. We don’t offer a refill-only service that we know will fail again in a few months.
Seasonal note: demand peaks March to June. Booking a service before the season starts gets you a faster slot and usually prevents the failure altogether.

Probably not. A sealed AC system doesn’t consume refrigerant, so low gas always means a leak. Far more often, poor cooling in Kolkata comes from fouled coils, a clogged filter, or a failed capacitor. We test pressure before recommending gas - and if it is low, we find the leak rather than just refilling.
Once a year at minimum, ideally before summer. In dustier parts of the city, or if you run the AC heavily through the monsoon, twice a year keeps cooling efficiency and electricity consumption in check.
